Last weekend's number one film, The Expendables, held onto the top box office slot for another weekend, dropping 52.6% for $16.5 million. After two weeks in release, the Sylvester Stallone film has grossed just under $65 million, showing that Stallone still has legs.
Second place went to newcomer Vampires Suck. The parody of the Twilight series opened with $12.2 million. With a modest production budget of $20 million, even considering how quickly these films tend to decline at the box office, the film should be able to turn a nice profit once international grosses and home video are taken into consideration.
In third place is last weekend's number 2 picture, Eat Pray Love. The Julia Roberts film dropped 48% and added $12 million to its total, bringing its total tally to $47.1 million in ten days.
Another low budget new film landed in fourth place, Lottery Ticket. The film played well to an underserved audience and brought in a strong $11.1 million for Warner Bros.
Will Ferrel and Mark Wahlberg's The Other Guys fell from third place to fifth, bringing in $10.1 million in its third weekend. The film has grossed $88.2 million to date.
Falling outside the top five were three other new openers, all with disappointing grosses. Piranha 3D brought in $10 million, Nanny McPhee Returns brought in $8.3 million and The Switch brought in $8.1 million.
