Megamind Unstoppable in Second Week
DreamWorks' latest animated foray, Megamind, continued to dominate the box office in its second weekend. Down a reasonable 35% from its opening weekend, the 3-D animated film pulled in another $30 million, taking its total to $89.8 million after only two weeks.
Second place went to Unstoppable, Director Tony Scott's latest action film about a runaway train. The Denzel Washington/Chris Pine-starring film opened with $23.5 million, against an estimated $100 million production budget.
In third place was another hold-over, Due Date. Last week's second place film fell a spot after dropping 52.5% for a gross of $15.5 million. With $59 million to date, the film the should have no trouble recouping Warner Bros' $65 million investment before disappearing from theaters.
The top five was rounded out by two other newcomers, Universal's $10 million-budgeted Skyline opened with $11.7 million, while Paramount's $40 million-budgeted Morning Glory opened with $9.6 million.
