Inception Continues Its Reign, Puts Wound In Salt

Christopher Nolan's follow-up to The Dark Knight, Inception, has taken box office gold for the second weekend in a row.  Riding a wave of good reviews and great word of mouth, the Leonardo DiCaprio-starring thriller dropped only 30% in its second weekend, adding $43.5 million to its total for $143.6 million in two weeks.

Second place went to Angelina Jolie's latest action flick, Salt.  The film brought in $36.5 million in its opening weekend for distributor Sony Pictures.

Despicable Me fell 26.5% to third place in its third weekend for $24 million.  With a total gross of $161.7 million so far, the film has been doing great business for Universal Studios.  The success of Despicable Me bodes well for future Universal 3-D animated films.

Disney's The Sorcerer's Apprentice dropped 45% in its second weekend, adding another $9.7 million to its total for a fourth place finish.  With only $42.6 million in grosses so far, Disney will be relying heavily on international grosses to get the $150-million budgeted film into the black.

Finally, the fifth slot went to another hold-over.  Toy Story 3 dropped 24.7% in its sixth weekend.  With another $9 million added to its total, the third movie in the series that started Pixar's run of hits has taken $379.5 million so far.
