'Other Guys' Win Weekend Race
Will Ferrel and Mark Wahlberg's new cop comedy The Other Guys opened in the number one spot this weekend, bringing in an estimated $35.6 million dollars. The opening represents Will Ferrel's best opening since Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Wahlberg's best since Planet of the Apes.
Second place went to hold over Inception, starring Leonard DiCaprio. The thriller from director Christopher Nolan continued its gradual decline, falling 32% to $18.6 million in its fourth weekend. The cumulative total for the picture so far is just under $228 million.
In third place was another new film, Step-Up 3D. Buoyed by higher 3D ticket prices and a strong following for the series with urban audiences, the film opened with $15.5 million against a modest $30 million production budget.
Angelina Jolie's latest action flick, Salt, fell 42% in its third weekend to take fourth place with $11.1 million. The film has brought in $92 million to date.
Finally, in fifth place was Dinner for Schmucks. The film fell over 55% in its second weekend, taking in $10.5 million. This doesn't bode well for the long term prospects of the Steve Carell/Paul Rudd comedy.
